I Want One Of These!

No, that is NOT a little beagle pup relieving himself on that tree. It's a statue! How totally silly and cute. I want one for my backyard, but I suppose that I'll have to plant a tree first...

Top Five On Friday

I thought that this one would be easy, but I ended up digging through my dusty collection of vinyl 45s for titles.

Top five songs with "Angels" in the title

1. Send Me An Angel - The Scorpions

You knew that this one would top the list, didn't you?!?

2. Fallen Angel - Poison
Just another song by one of those "hair bands!"

3. Angel Of The Morning - Merrilee Rush/Juice Newton
I'm listing both the original and cover artists for this song because I liked both versions.

4. Undrecover Angel - Alan O'Day
Released in 1977. I'm really dating myself with this one!

5. I Want The Angel - The Jim Carroll Band
The B-side of the 1980 release People Who Died.

Wow! After searching through nearly three hundred vinyl discs, I was only able to find three songs with angels in the title. I guess that this little devil just isn't into songs about angels!

Unless they're by one of those "hair bands..."
Can anybody tell that I HATE that term?

Daily Dirt

I just couldn't pass up these questions.
And the topic is...

Bands

1. What's your favorite band?

The Scorpions...
Well, duh!

2. Do you own all their albums?
Unfortunately, no. There are a few albums that I've not been able to get my paws on yet, Crazy World and Best Of Rockers And Ballads. There is also a boxed set that I've not yet purchased. To make up for this, I own multiple copies of many of the albums that I do have:
Unbreakable - One German imported limited edition CD and one American edition CD.
Love At First Sting - One copy on vinyl and one on CD
Big City Nights - One copy on CD and one on cassette.
Worldwide Live - Two copies on CD because my original copy became unplayable, thanks to my dog!
Deadly Sting - One and a half copies on CD. It's a two disc set and disc two of my original set got munched by my darling doggie.

3. Do you know all of the bands' member's names?
Yep, every one of them, past and present! And now you're going to know them, too!

Current Band Line-up

Klaus Meine - vocals
Matthias Jabs - guitars
Rudolf Schenker - guitars
Pawel Maciwoda - bass
James Kottak - drums

Previous Band Members

Uli Jon Roth (guitars) - Original lead guitarist

Michael Schenker (guitars) - Roth's replacement and Rudolf's younger brother. eventually replaced by Matthias Jabs

Francis Buccholz (bass) - Original bassist

Ralph Rieckermann (bass) - Buccholz's replacement who left the band last year to persue solo projects

Herman Rarebel (drums) - Original drummer

4. What is their most recent single?
A web-only release called Miracle that I have not yet downloaded due to my miserable dial-up connection.

5. What genre is your favorite band?
I've often heard them referred to as a hair metal band, but I prefer to call it classic kick-ass metal! What the hell does hair have to do with the music anyway?

Dieting Is The Devil!

A while ago, I looked into the mirror and saw a middle-aged stranger looking back at me. To make matters worse, the bitch was FAT! I cried. That couldn't be me, could it? Sadly, I knew that it was.

I know that there is nothing that I can do about the middle-aged thing, but dammit I could lose those extra pounds. And so my endeavors began....

I began working out at Curves five days a week. Two times around the circuit is what they recommend, but that's not enough for me. Three or four times at least for this girl. I must get thin...
Alas, several inches came off, but very few pounds. It was time to try drastic measures i.e. dieting.

No more yummy MTO cheeseburgers from Sheetz for lunch, as a matter of fact, no more lunch, period! Mom's homecooked dinners have been replaced by Weight Watchers Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine. I drink lots of green tea because I've been told it boosts your metabolism. My evening snack now consists of either Lipton Cup-a-Soup or a salad of mixed greens topped with light Italian dressing....

YUM!

The good news: To date, I've lost 21 pounds, if my bathroom scale is to be believed.

The bad news: That's not even half of what I want to lose! More diet enteés and green salads...

Dammit, I miss junk food!

But if I waste away to a skinny little waif, maybe I can get one of these two to fall madly in love with me...

Right....?!

Take Me Back Tuesday

Using only songs from before 1990...

1. Using your name, list the titles.

I'll do you one better. I'm using only Scorpions' songs from before 1990...
(at least, for this part...)

Don't Make No Promises (Your Body Can't Keep)
Every Minute Every Day
Blackout
Only A Man
Rhythm Of Love
As Soon As The Good Times Roll
Holiday

2. A little I say, you think: (Name the first song that comes to mind)

Red:
Ruby Tuesday - The Rolling Stones
Rubies are red, aren't they?

Vivid: No One Like You - The Scorpions
Every time I hear this song I get a very vivid mental image of the video...

Soft: Killing Me Softly - Roberta Flack
I really don't need to explain this one.

Catchy: Joy To The World - Three Dog Night
Jeremiah was a bullfrog..."
'Nuff said.

Forgettable: Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone - Glass Tiger
A song about not wanting to be forgettable

3. Name three songs with animals in the title.

Cat's In The Cradle - Harry Chapin
Horse With No Name - America
Me And You And A Dog Named Boo - Lobo

Random Ten

Ok....Here it is! The brand new Monday meme!

Ten songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back.

1. Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver

'Cos we went to West Virginia

2. The Gambler - Kenny Rogers
That would be me, except I don't know when to fold 'em!

3. Passion Rules The Game - The Scorpions
"Don't you need some luck tonight
I do. Yes, I do..."

4. Even The Losers - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
But I didn't get lucky...

5. Too Bad - Nickelback
I put a lot of them in the machines, but I didn't get a nickel back!

6. December Snow - The Moody Blues
Perhaps that should be APRIL Snow...
But it WAS snowing!

7. While You See A Chance - Steve Winwood
"While you see a chance, take it.."
I think I took too many of them!

8. Island Girl - Elton John
Hey, the casino is called Wheeling Island...

9. Hound Dog - Elvis Presley
Because there are greyhound races at Wheeling Island, even though we didn't get to see them.

10. Come Again - Damn Yankees
That's what they told me when I left the casino...

And now for the picture...

My six- string acoustic guitar, named Klaus, with a greyhound plush souvenir from the casino.

1. What season are you in right now?
It is spring, although you wouldn't know it from the weather that we had today, 39°F and snowing!

2. Do you celebrate anything special this time of year?
Easter

and my dad's and "The Estranged One's" birthdays...

3. Name 3 things that come to mind when you think of spring.
Tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths!

4. In the current season, about how many hours of the day are daylight hours?
According to the people at Yahoo! Weather there will be approximately 14 hours and 40 minutes of daylight today.

5. Do you do any 'spring cleaning?'
What?! Me clean! That's Michael's job...

6. Do you wash your own car or take it to the car wash?
Neither, it's the dirt that keeps it from falling apart!

7. Do you hang your laundry out on a clothesline on nice days?
Working sixdays a week prevents me from doing this. I get home from work too late for laundry to dry on a clothesline outside, and I refuse to do laundry on my one lonely day off!

8. Post a picture that reflects the current season where you live.

We Didn't Win

So, I suppose that means that God was kind enough to remove the calories and fat from this yummy food...

But just in case he didn't, Andrea and I decided to get a bit of exercise by walking through the area near the casino.

Did you know that there is life in Wheeling outside the casino?!
We discovered some interesting signs of it while on our walk, like this suspension bridge...

And this wall, noting the high water levels of floods which have struck the city.

I'm A Good Little Girl

I went to church tonight, because that's what good little Catholic girls do. Hey, I know a subtle message from God when I see one, and the fact that the newly elected pope is German... Well, I'm not the only one who figures that was a message for me to get my butt into church a tad bit more frequently. Besides, Andrea and I are going to Wheeling Island tomorrow and I figured that a prayer or to for some luck at the slots couldn't hurt! (Even though everybody knows that we're REALLY going there for the Island Buffet and the chocolate fountains!)

Let's hope that my prayers for luck are answered in the affirmative, and if not that, then please, God, remove all of the calories and fat from all of the food I'm going to eat tomorrow!

Oh, well, I'm off to NeoPets to practice playing the slots...

Top Five On Friday

This week is much easier than last week's since I was not involved in the topic selection. I betcha you guys never want me to do that ever again!

Top five songs with a name in the title.

1. Priscilla - The Scorpions

My favorite song about a cockroach!

2. Aleyah - The Scorpions
Such an interesting name...

3. Layla - Eric Clapton
My old border collie loved this song so much that we named her Layla. Now I can't listen to it without thinking of her...
~ sniff ~
I miss her!

4. Mary Jane's Last Dance - Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers
This one was also one of Mr. Petty's video masterpieces. Creepy...

5. Valerie - Steve Winwood
Not to be confused with The Monkees' song of the same title.

My Conversation With Klaus

Now, before you all start getting excited, I must tell you that I've never met the man. Sad, but, unfortunately true...
My conversation was quite one-sided. A response to the song Blood Too Hot. As I listened to the lyrics, I just couldn't stop myself from talking back...

I came all around the world just to be with you
Really, Klaus? When? Two years ago when I was unable to purchase one stinking ticket?!
I've been flying supersonic, between black and blue
Hit a bit of turbulance, did you?
I promised I'd be there
It's not nice to break promises, Klaus!
And now I'm here and I won't go
NO YOU'RE NOT!!!
Before I give you everything I've got
I don't want everything, Klaus, just your body. Oh, and that guy with the white Gibson Explorer...

You left everything behind, just to feel that touch
I would honestly like to, but I'm too poor.
To join the family of spiders, really means so much
Such a shame that I am the black sheep!
There's a storm up in the air
Yeah, It is raining a bit...
It's the power we all share
When it runs through our flesh and blood

I won't argue with you on that one.

If your blood is so hot
It is, Klaus, it is!
Stand up and rock with me
I am, but I'm in the middle of the parking lot at work. People are looking at me funny...
If your blood is too hot, rock with me
Actually, my hot blood demands that I do something a bit different with you...
I think you know what I mean...

repeat

I came all around the world, like on flying wings...
Must I repeat, YOU DID NOT!
To hear you screaming out for more, still means everything
I'd love to scream out for more, Klaus, but you've gotta get your ass into my bedroom first.
Raise your hands up in the air
I am, but those people are really looking at me funny now.
I swear to you that I'll be there
WHEN?!
I swear it in the name of rock
Didn't your mommy tell you that it's not nice to swear?

If your blood is so hot
It is, Klaus, it is!
Stand up and rock with me
I am, but I'm in the middle of the parking lot at work. People are looking at me funny...
If your blood is too hot, rock with me
Actually, my hot blood demands that I do something a bit different with you...
I think you know what I mean...

repeat

The song ends with Klaus making some seriously orgasmic sounds. I begin to have fantasies about how I could get him to make those sounds again, sans the music!

And thus went my conversation with Klaus...

I Am Easily Amused

Yes, the Google searchers are at it again, keeping me giggling. I love these people. Really, I do! They bring me laughter, and we all know that this snarky bitch needs all of the laughter that she can get.

Today's greatest Google Giggle came from Germany, where someone happened upon this site in a search for Angry Cockroaches guitar tabs!

EEEEEK! There are angry cockroaches in Germany, and they have GUITARS!!! Mati, Klaus, Rudolf, please be careful, my dears. They might be coming after you. Hmmmm... perhaps this explains the song, Priscilla.

But, seriously, I am curious. Are the Angry Cockroaches a band? Or is this a song? No one that I know has ever heard of them/it either way. I sincerely hope that this searcher returns. I'd like to learn more about these Angry Cockroaches...

Oh, and I must make the comment to this searcher that I do to all who come here in search of guitar tabs...
LEARN TO READ FUCKING MUSIC!!!!!
Ah... that felt good. Aren't there any guitarists out there who know how to read music any more? Am I the last of a dying breed?

Another searcher, this one from the Toronto, Canada area, has inspired my generosity. She was looking for an MP3 of The Scorpions Send Me An Angel. I guess that this person did not find a download, because she came back twice, I am assuming to listen to my background music. So... If she comes back one more time, she can claim the gift I am offering her...

Just right click here and select "save file as" to claim your gift.

As an added extra, I am also offering this lovely screen capture of Klaus from the video.

Enjoy!

My Boss Can Go To Hell!

I arrived at work yesterday in a perfectly good mood. Alas, that changed very quickly. Why? My idiot boss! Here is what happened...

I gather my mail for sorting, put on my headphones, turn on the MP3 player, and begin doing my job. The music keeps me happy by blocking out the the horrible sounds coming from the office radio and any unpleasant conversations going on between other employees. Inadvertantly, I commit what my boss considers to be a no-no, I sing!

He comes over to my case (cubical for sorting mail, for the postally illiterate) and says, "Could you please stop singing?!" Embarassed, I complied. It was not until later that I began to get angry, very angry!

He had no fucking right to ask me to stop. I don't care if I sounded like a wolf howling at the moon! I was not violating any office policy. There is no rule against singing in the office, no matter how bad it is. There are, however rules against discussing politics and religion. I have heard many a heated argument over these topics among the MEN in our office, yet he never asked THEM to stop. When a fellow (male) employee made remarks to the order that racial profiling was just good police work, he was not told to keep his racist views to himself. Yet I am not allowed to SING?!?!

It's not as if I was singing along with Wild Horses on Never Going Home...
"I'm a bad motherfucker with a chip on my brain..."
.

The disc that I was playing was mostly Scorpions. Klaus doesn't even KNOW that word. The worst I've ever heard him say was son-of-a-bitch in Taxman Woman, and that song wasn't even on there!

Since there was no offensive language in any of the songs that I was singing, I can only conclude that it was my actual singing that he found to be so offensive. To that I say tough fucking shit! If you don't like it go lock yourself in your office or get your own headset to block me out.

And so I have dicided that tomorrow the MP3 player will once again be turned on. It's my music and I'llsing if I want to...

If that fat-ass son of a bitch tells me to stop, I have my speech prepared. I will inform him of how he never made an effort to stop blatantly unethical conversations among the men in the office. I will inform him that he let racist comments made by men go ignored. I will ask him if he sees a pattern there and if he would like to talk to the people from NOW or the ACLU about this...
I betcha that stops him from pissing in MY cheerios again!
Dammit! I WILL SING!!!

Take Me Back Tuesday
Well... almost!

Here are this week's questions (erm... demands)...

Name three songs from the year you were born.
Name three artists who had hits the year you were born.
Name three artists born the same year you were born.

Ya know what... I am not meeting these demands. Why? Because I was born in 1961! Yes, I said 1961. Rock 'n roll as we know it was just a baby then, there were no metal bands.

So many important musical events had yet to occur. For example:

The Beatles did not appear live on The Ed Sullivan Show until I was two years old.
The first tape players (8 track) did not appear in cars until the 1966 Fords rolled off the assembly line.
I was seven years old before the Woodstock music festival took place.
When Elvis Presley died, I was fifteen.
I was nineteen when John Lennon was shot to death in New York City.
MTV made its debut when I was nineteen as well.
The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame didn't open until I was thirty-three!
The following members (and one former member) of The Scorpions had not yet been born...
James Kottak (1962), Ralph Rieckermann (1962), and Pawel Maciwoda (1967)!

So, you see, from my point of view there was no music in the year that I was born, at least nothing noteworthy. It was all still waiting in the wings.

Let's Go Digital!

From the time you get up in the morning until the time you go to bed at night, how many different digital/electronic devices do you use on any given day?

A Day In My (Digital) Life...

I awaken to the buzzing of my digital alarm clock. When I am ready, I hop in my car to go to work. I check the time on the digital clock on the dashboard. I pop a CD in the car stereo and listen to digital music. After parking my car, I must plunk a few quarters in the parking meter wich is, of course, digital! At work, I listen to more digital music on my MP3 player while I sort mail. As I head out to deliver the route, I usually grab my digital camera, just in case I see something interesting or exciting. The drive home from work is the digital same as the drive to work. Upon arriving home, I pop dinner in the microwave and set the digital timer. After dinner I sometimes watch TV. To do so I must use a decoder box to unscramble the 100% digital signal sent to me by satellite. Time for bed. I set the digital alarm clock so that the cycle may repeat itself the next morning...

How often do you clean your mouse?
I don't have to clean my mice any more, they're all optical. I can't say that I miss that task.

It's Time For Sunday Brunch!

"Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast."
~ Oscar Wilde ~

1. Do you eat breakfast on a regular basis and why or why not?

Does a REALLY big cup of coffee count as breakfast?

That's about all that I ever have for breakfast, unless it is a special occasion.

2. What is your typical everyday breakfast?
Just this...

3. How do you eat your eggs?
I eat them just like I do everything else. I put them in my mouth. I chew them, and then swallow them...
Oh, you want to know how I like them cooked!
Sunny side up, scrambled, poached, in an omelette, hard boiled, it really doesn't matter. I like eggs.

4. What is your favorite restaurant for eating breakfast?
Eat 'n Park has the most incredible breakfast buffet.
Mmmmm... You name it, it's there.
They also make extra yummy cappuccino...

5. Describe your perfect breakfast in detail.
First of all, my perfect breakfast would have all of the fat and calories magically removed from it so that I could eat all that I wanted. It would be served to me on a silver platter at around noon, because I am not a morning person. It would also be served to me in bed. I would be sharing it with Matthias Jabs, who would be next to me in that bed...

Wait... Scratch the food. I'll be having Matthias for breakfast!

Random Rants

Sometimes a girl just needs to rant. This is one of those times...

Random Rant #1

Newsflash, people! The telephone book is NOT, I repeat NOT, an address book. Quite often the addresses listed with the phone numbers are incomplete or incorrect. Give overworked and underpaid mail carriers a break. Instead of mailing that birthday card for Joe Schmoe to the address listed in the phone book, give him a call. Ask good old Joe for his correct mailing address. His mail carrier will thank you for it.

Random Rant #2

Why does Matthias Jabs always seemed to get cheated out of the credit that he is due?! As if it isn't bad enough that Guitar World magazine passed him over for Uli Jon Roth in their list of the top 100 metal guitarists last year, now it seems that someone out there doesn't want him to get proper credit for the songs that he's written. I refer, of course, to
Deep And Dark. First there was the error in the liner notes of the German released CD which incorrectly stated that the music to this song was written By Rudolf Schenker. One listen to the song and you could clearly tell this was an error. Anyone familiar with his style can tell you that this song practically screams Matthias Jabs. I thought that all was well when the misinformation was corrected on the American release, not so. When I was finally able to rip the track to my computer, I discover that the providers of the song information for Media Player and Sony think that Rudolf and Matthias collaborated on the music. Now, I've got nothing against Rudolf but for crying out loud...

GIVE MATTHIAS THE CREDIT THAT HE IS DUE!!!!

Don't cheat him because he's beautiful...

Random Rant #3

Why is broadband internet service so freaking expensive?! My newly found passion for playing with music files has cased me to loathe the slowness of my dial-up connection. I want DSL! But $50 amonth plus costs for the needed equipment....? Damn, I ve got children to feed and clothe! Sure many ISPs will offer a free router or lower price, but read the fine print. The router is only free after rebate in most instances. You've still got to have the cash to shell out initially. And those lower prices...
They usually expire after a short period of time, usually three months to a year... ARRGH!

Random Rant #4

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, but still, wouldn't it just be lovely if people would make the effort to spell everbody's name correctly?! I refer again to the jackasses providing song information to Media Player and Sony. It's James Kottak, not Kottack! You got it right on the first song, why couldn't you spell it correctly on the other two? I think that James should start a blog and rant on and on about idiots who can't spell his name (Kinda like Justin Heyward...Erm...Hayward). I'd visit it daily and giggle.

Ranom Rant #5

Why is it that you seldom hear the words Neil Young and guitar god used in the same sentence? You really should be hearing it all the time. Have a listen to Like A Hurricane if you don't believe me. The guitar work on this song completely blows me away! Yeah, Neil does like to say what's on his mind without giving much consideration to what other people might think, but that's no reason to slight his abilities as a guitarist...

Again, don't hate him because he's beautiful...
(And perhaps a bit too outspoken)

Top Five On Friday

I came up with this week's Top Five, so it should be easy for me. Right?!

Top five songs with names of "flowers" in the title.

1. Love Is A Rose - Neil Young

Neil is usually pretty good with lyrics, but on the second verse of this one he goes of into the land of the lyrically challenged...
"I want to go to an old hoe down
Long ago in a western town
Pick me up if my feet are draggin'
Give me a lift and I'll hay yer wagon..."

Huh?!

2. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison
One of the most popular "wrist-slashers" of all time...

3. Tiptoe Through The Tulips - Tiny Tim
Damn! Lady Starlight's age is really showing on this one!

4. The Rose - Bette Midler
From the soundtrack of the movie of the same title

5. You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond
It doesn't say what kind of flowers, but judging from the rest of the songs it's most likely roses...

That was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, and I have no one but myself to blame, except maybe for Neil Young. Love Is A Rose was on my mental loop when I was asked for ideas for this meme...

Damn you, Neil!

Never mind, I'll forgive you 'cos you're so sexy...

I Am A Middle-Aged Metal Head

Why does this come as such a shock to so many people? Is there some sort of law on the books somewhere stating that once a person attains the age of thirty-five or so, her musical taste must change? If there is, I missed it. If there is, I shall continue to violate it. So, sue me!

In the 80's, I was a faithful follower of MTV's Headbangers Ball. Bands such as The Scorpions (Of course!), Def Leppard, Guns 'N Roses, and Poison were and still are my passion. Sure, I'm a few years older now, but so are the guys in the bands. They're still recording, why in hell would I not still be listening?!

The day that a screaming guitar riff fails to send me to my "happy place" and I start listening to the crap that they play on so-called adult contemporary radio stations, someone PLEASE start digging the six-foot hole for me. For me to listen to garbage like that, my spirit would have to be completely dead. Put me out of my misery and bury me so that I might go to rock 'n roll heaven...

Or, better still, start stocking up on the

Because either Hell has frozen over

or the horsemen are getting ready to ride!
