It seems that they are trying to burn it down, or at least the Melenyzer Building! The twilight sky was lit by the flahing lights of the firetrucks as firemen arrived to fight the blaze.
Here we see them rolling out the hose to help extinguish the flames.
Of course, people were milling around everywhere to watch the excitement.
