"She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain." ~ Louisa May Alcott ~ Little Women
1. What is your favorite movie adapted from a book that you have actually read? Was it pretty true to the original author's vision, or was too much vital information left out or changed? Never has a movie been made from a book without vast changes and/or omissions from the original storyline. The only movie that I've ever seen that remained true to the book nearly 100% is a cartoon version of the children's novel, Charlotte's Web. For this reason, I consider it to be the best.
2. What, in your opinion, is the worst movie adaptation of a book? What did you not like about it? S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders was required reading when I was in junior high. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, and was quite excited when a movie versionof the book was made. It was a big disappointment. The casting was horrible. None of the actors matched the mental pictures that I had of the characters.
3. Have you ever liked the movie version of a book despite its glaring differences from the original story? Only if I saw the movie before reading the book, as with Stephen King's The Dead Zone. Casting Christopher Walken in the leading role probably had a lot to do with that as well!
4. Have you ever seen a movie adaptation that actually made you go out and read that book after seeing the film? See the answer to the previous question. The book made a lot more sense than the movie. As usual, the movie makers left a lot of the story out of the film.
5. Have you ever seen a movie without knowing beforehand that it had first been published in book form? I don't think so...
