As this Labor Day draws to a close, so does the summer season. It's time to put away the white shoes, send the young 'uns back to school and all that jazz. I have to ask myself, "Where did this summer go?" It all seemed to go by in sort of a blur for me this year. Certainly, I did some fun things, the Atlantic City trip, the five viewings of Van Helsing , the Pittsburgh Moody Blues show... Still, there is so much more that I wish I had been able to do. No amusement parks for me this year. I find that to be rather depressing. This is the first year in ages that I haven't gone to Kennywood at least once. Dammit! I need a roller coaster fix. Equally disturbing is the fact that I did next to nothing with my sons this summer. I blame that on "the estranged one" for taking them away on every summer holiday and the sorry state of my car, but it still would have been nice if we had at least one outing together, which we did not. Next year, I tell myself, but it provides me little comfort. They are growing up much too fast. Ray is already a legal adult and in little more than a blink of an eye, Mike will be as well. Time marches on, leaving me standing in its wake...
On a lighter note, this week's patriotic themed mambo got me to thinking about my elementary school days. I couldn't help but remember how each morning our class would say the Pledge of Allegiance and then sing America or as some people call it, "My Country 'Tis Of Thee." A bunch of patriots my classmates and I were not. We loathed this daily singing and quickly made up a parody of the song, a parody which popped into my mind upon completion of the mambo and hasn't left since...
My country 'tis of thee I came from Germany Bring out the beer! I like Budweiser I don't like Rolling Rock But I'll drink anything 'Cause I like beer!
Would someone like to knock this song out of my head now? Please!
