1. What's your favorite disaster movie of all time? Such a difficult decision! I grew up in the 70's when disaster movies were all the rage. From sinking ships to airplane highjacking, earthquakes to flaming skyscrapers, there was a movie for them all! I saw all of them too! Classics, each and every one. If I have to choose just one, I'd say The Posidon Adventure, since it was the movie that started it all, if memory serves me.
2. Do you prefer a disaster movie with tons of special effects, carnage and general mayhem (i.e. Armageddon) or would you rather see one where the focus is on the people and the event's effects on their lives (i.e. Deep Impact)? Give me special effects. I want explosions and flames and all sorts of carnage, and I want it to look real! Oooo... Who could ever forget Earthquake! and those special Sensurround speakers that made the floor of the movie theater shake?!
3. Of all the disaster movies you've seen, which depicts the most realistic portrayal of what might happen in an actual disaster? Which was the most far-fetched? Looking back from the events of September 11, 2001, I'd have to say that The Towering Inferno was a lot more realistic than we had thought at the time it was made. On the other hand, considering the strict rules imposed on young women of breeding in the early 1900's, the entire relationship plot of Titanic could never have happened.
Bonus - Which character would you be if you were in a disaster movie - the tough hero, the corrupt businessman who profits from it all, the old lady who runs around and screams "We're doomed!!!", the kid who saves the day, the young guy who buys it in the first five minutes of the disaster, or another stock character? In real life, I tend to be one who remains calm in emergencies, falling apart only after everything is over. This tempts me to say that I should play some sort of tough heroine, but there would be no fun in that. I want to play someone hysterical, perhaps the mother or lover of the guy who bites the big one in the first five minutes...
