I went to the annual Labor Day family picnic at my mother-in-law's yesterday. Everyone is still alive! I did not die of boredom. I did not kill anyone. I consider this to be a minor miracle which can be attributed to several factors.
I arrived late, so many of the more annoying family members had already taken their leave. It did not save me from being hit on by Uncle Ernie with Alzheimer's, though!
Ernie: "If I were twenty years younger, I'd ask you out." Me: "Even if you were, I'd still be married to your nephew..."
Uncle Ernie is always forgetting things, like the fact that Scott (yes, "the estranged one" has a name!) and I are married, and that he has a wife as well.
I brought some food of my own. Some tasty macaroni salad to be exact. Having something tasty to go with the burned weenies takes a bit of the edge off! Thank-you, Betty Crocker, for that Suddenly Salad mix!
But the main thing that warded off boredom and prevented me from getting into a murderous mood was the presence of my Kodak DX6490. It is much more fun to take embarassing photos of people than to go on a killing spree. Of course, no one can be embarassed by these photos unless I post them somewhere, so here they are!
My oldest son, Raymond was my main victim.
Here we see him concentrating intently on an ear of corn.
Here he is again, after being conned into jumping into the chilly waters of the swimming pool.
My grand-nephew, Eric, did not want to be photographed...
But all of the running in the world couldn't save him from my camera's sport mode and 10x zoom!
I'm no party pooper, so I let Michael borrow my camera to take a few embarassing photos of his own. I even let him take one of ME!
His father couldn't escape the camera, either.
Here we see him with his demon posessed cat, Snowball.
Now Mike wants a camera just like his mom's. I told him that for three hundred dollars he can buy one. He said he'd rather it be his only Christmas present. I betcha he won't be singing that tune in a month or two!
If you want to see more embarassing family photos, I'll be posting them to my Flickr account shortly.
