As a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Steeler, Steve Courson, yesterday at his Fayette County home. Courson was in the process of cutting down a tree on his property when he died. The tree began to fall in the direction of his dog. He died to protect his beloved friend, who suffered two dislocated hips, but will recover. What a tragic act of love. Certainly the angels were there to lead him directly into heaven for his unselfish act, for I firmly believe that anyone who dies protecting a loved one is admitted directly to heaven, no questions asked. There is, after all, no greater love than to lay down one's life for a friend.
Courson is seen here in his Steelers uniform in the glory days 0f the 1970. He was an integral part of two Steelers Super Bowl championship teams. After leaving the Steelers, he played briefly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Upon his retirement he moved back to the Pittsburgh area, making his home in Henry Clay Township, near Farmington.
My sympathy goes out to his friends and family. This kind and caring man will be greatly missed, but surely heaven gained an angel yeaterday...
