It was released the weekend that we were in Atlantic City for the Moody Blues shows. I really wanted to see it, but it took a back seat to the Jays. Week after week, month after month, I still didn't get to the theater, until tonight.
I am referring to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Tonight Andrea, my sons, and I piled into her car and headed off to the Maxi Saver Cinema to see it at long last. It was well worth the $1.50 admission. Hell, it would have been worth the whole $8.50 admission that I would have paid had I been able to see it when it was first released. I loved it, and not just because Willy Wonka was played by Johnny Depp...
I never liked the original Willy Wonka movie, it gave me the creeps. This version was much better, and, I am told, truer to what was written in the book (which I would now love to read). Danny Elfman's music for the picture was positively delightful, another big improvement over the original movie. I may even go out and buy myself a soundtrack CD, that's how much I liked it.
Overall, this was a fantastic movie!
I can't wait until it is relesed on DVD, so that I can watch it over and over again.
