This week you all get to find out what a cheapskate I am, because Monday Madness is asking:
How much do you think is the most you would pay for...
1. ...a loaf of bread?
The WalMart bakery has all sorts of yummy breads for a dollar a loaf. Why should I pay more somewhere else?
2. ...a gallon of gas?
Since this is an absolute necessity, I guess that I have to pay whatever they're asking. Prices over two dollars a gallon make me cringe, but I have no choice but to pay them.
3. ...a pair of jeans?
Two words, "clearance rack." I refuse to pay more than twenty dollars for a pair of jeans. Actually, I seldom pay more than ten. This doesn't mean that I always wear cheap jeans though. In the past month I have purchased two pairs of Bill Blass designer jeans for a combined price of less than ten dollars. Just call me a bargain hunter!
4. ...a computer?
The most expensive computer that I've ever purchased was my son's laptop which cost a whopping nine hundred dollars. I was coerced, I tell you. Never again! That thing is a complete lemon. My four hundred dollar used laptop has never given me a lick of trouble that I didn't cause myself. High prices do not necessarily equal a better machine. The computer shows at the Expo Mart in Monroville are a great place to find bargains.
5. ...a camera?
My new digital camera set me back three hundred big ones. I guess that's about as much as I'll pay. Of course, heaven only knows how much I'll spend on accessories for it, extra batteries, SD cards, cases, etc.
6. ...a pair of shoes?
I wear out shoes so quickly that it is senseless for me to buy expensive ones. WalMart and PayLess are my main sources of shoes. I would never pay more than twenty dollars for a pair. If I don't wear them out in two months or less, my devil dog will eat them!
7. ...a television?
Large screens and HDTV do not excite me in the least. I am perfectly happy with my twenty-one inch model for which I paid less than a hundred dollars.
8. ...a recliner chair?
I've never purchased a recliner chair. I don't even have the desire to own one, so I guess the answer would be nothing!
9. ...a month of 'lightening speed' internet service?
The Verizon offer of $29.99 per month DSL service is very tempting, but I've gotta read the fine print first...
10. ...a cell phone?
I've never actually paid anything for my cell phones. Both came free when I committed to one year with my carrier. For service I am paying about eighty dollars a month (before taxes) for two lines with 1000 shared minutes, unlimited weekend and same carrier calling, and 1100 text messages (550 per line).
