Ah, this oldtimer remembers the days when music came on big ol' vinyl LPs. Those were the days! So, This week's thirteen is:
Thirteen reasons that vinyl albums are better than CDs.
1. Vinyl LPs were much bigger than CDs, therefore you could actually see the artwork and photography that was included with them.
2. Goodies! Because of the larger size, it was much easier to include goodies inside the packaging. Photo albums, posters, book covers, t-shirt iron-ons, etc...
3. A shrink wrapped LP was much easier to open when brand new than is a CD.
4. The RIAA never screamed about all of those analog copies I made of my LPs, 'cos they had no way of knowing that they existed!
5. Let's face it, analog recordings sound better than digital recordings. They might not have as much output, but they definitely sound better. Someone once explained the scientific reason for this to me, but my tiny mind couldn't comprehend.
6. Scratches on CDs are downright annoying, but on LPs they were signs of love!
7. The larger surface area on the cover gave performers more room to sign them for you! I refer of course to my signed copy of Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's Incredible
So much nicer than its signed CD counterpart!
8. Contrary to popular belief, with proper care, a vinyl LP will remain in good playing condition much longer than a CD.
9. You could actually read the lyric sheets included with vinyl albums. Curse my far-sighted eyes! I can't read the lyric sheet for Michael Schenker's Tales Of Rock 'N' Roll, even with my glasses on!
10. Vinyl LPs had tracklistings on the packaging AND on the actual album.
11. Twelve inch photo discs! Kewlies!
12. Because of the larger size, LPs were more difficult to shoplift, therefore the prices were lower as the manufacturers did not lose as much profit to theft.
13.Never, ever, was a vinyl LP "eaten" by a hungry turntable!
