My Week So Far...
I could probably sum up my week to this point with a single word, freezing! Even though winter does not start officially until next week, the temperatures here have been quite low. This is no fun for someone whose teeth begin to chatter when temperatures dip below 60°F, especially when that someone has to work outdoors!
Monday really got things off on the wrong foot. Having had a bit more snowfall over the weekend, I decided not to have the chains removed from the tires of my postal vehicle. This proved to be a BIG mistake. Most of the roads were clear and dry. I was limited to a speed of 25 MPH for no good reason. (Travelling at a higher speed on chains will cause them to break.) Things got even worse when those nasty chains caused me to get stuck in a customer's driveway. It seems that they caused its non-skid surface to have a reverse effect! My wheels spun, and the vehicle slid into the piled up snow that had been plowed away from the driveway. I was stuck but good!
Jack had to come to rescue me from my predicament. I feel guilty when he has to do that. I know that it is part of the job that he is paid to do, but that doesn't change the fact that it makes me feel indebted to him. You see, we don't like each other, not one little bit! He is an obnoxious, sexist pig! Even worse, he is a very attractive one. Somehow, every time he resues me from a plight like this one I am overcome by the urge to give him a great big hug. YUCK! Thank heaven that I have the sense not to give in to this urge. Lord only knows what horrors would occur if I did!
Of course, the last thing that hefore sending me on my merry way was to remove the offending chains from my tires. Free at last! I shivered and zipped through the rest of my route with ease, but still didn't get done until after 5:00 PM. I am normally done at around three.
A bright spot in that day from Hell was my friend, Pam. She knew that I was having a bad day and called me several times that day to make sure that I was OK! The last time that she called, I was near the end of my route. She promised to meet me in the parking lot of my office to drive me to my car, because she knows that I usually park several blocks away. "Good," I told her, "Bring me a cigarette, too!" (I had smoked my last one while waiting for Jack to come to rescue me.) Dear person that she is, she brought me half a pack. We sat in her car and talked a while before I departed for home. I was so tired and cold and frutrated, I needed the time to unwind.
Fortunately there were no more calamties yesterday or today. Still, it has been damned cold. It promises to remain cold for quite some time. I need some Hump Day Hunks to keep me warm!
These guys can keep me warm any time they want to!
