"Learning why one great book is just like every other great book is the key to understanding literature." ~ John Moschitta ~
Recommend to me, and to all of our loyal weekly players, at least one book from each. Briefly explain why the book best represents that genre and why we should go right out and pick it up!
1. Horror: Any book containing a collection of works by Edgar Alan Poe. Poe is the ultimate master of horror. Authors such as King bow down before his greatness.
2. Suspense/Mystery:A Stranger Is Watching. As with most popular authors, Mary Higgins-Clark's earlier works are her best. This one is a real page turner.
3. Science-Fiction/Fantasy:Foreigner. C. J. Cherryh creates a world and characters so intriguing in this novel that you will have to go out and get all of the rest of the books in the series.
4. Romance/Chick Lit: Sorry, Lady Starlight does not read this genre.
5. American Classic:Tom Sawyer. Although not exactly politically correct, this novel by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmens) is amusing and quite easy to read.
6. British/World Classic:The Phantom Of The Opera. The theatrical productions of this book have all changed the story so much. Give the phantom a break and read his REAL story.
7. Drama (Play): I firmly believe that this type of literature is best performed and watched rather than read, but if you must read a play, I recommend Shakespeare's MacBeth.
8. Biography/Autobiography: As a result of my childhood fascination with Helen Keller, I recommend The Miracle Worker. It is a truly inspirational story.
