Hump Day Hunt It's time for the weekly photo meme from the folks at Foto Pherrets The mercury is rising! The sun is shining! Our word for this week is: Hot The Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ is a great place to be on a hot hazy summer day! | Tuesday, May 30, 2006
Take Me Back Tuesday Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer in the US... So, let's think summer! What's your favorite way to listen to music on a hot summer day? In the car with the windows rolled down and the volume cranked WAY up, preferably while driving someplace interesting, like the beach or an amusement park. Do you have any music that you like to listen to more in the summer than any other time of the year? Summertime tends to bring on a little craving to listen to The Beach Boys. Kokomo is currently stuck on my mental loop, really stuck! Do you see more concerts in the summer? And if so what type of venues do you prefer to see those shows? Travelling is easier (and more predictable) during the summer months and many of the larger venues in this area are outdoor, so most of my concert going is done in the summer months. I much prefer to see concerts in a nice indoor venue, but alas, we don't get many of those... | Monday, May 29, 2006
Manic Monday The ever edition... 1. Have you ever listened in on a private conversation? I am not proud of it, but yes, I have. It's true what they say about this. When you eaves drop, you never hear anything that you like! 2. Have you ever purposely taken a walk in the rain? Yes. When there is a shower on a hot summer day, it is fun to take a stroll in the rain, sans umbrella! 3. Have you ever avoided doing something because of a superstition? Every time Friday the 13th appears on the calendar, I am filled with dread. I avoid doing anything that might turn into disaster on that day. It's the one superstition that really gets to me. 4. Have you ever been on the radio? Having dated/lived with/almost married a man who worked in radio, of course I have. I also did a lot of unpaid helping at the radio stations in Pittsburgh at that time, including helping develop the rotations for WDSY in the early 80s. | Sunday, May 28, 2006
Random Ten It's time to recap my weekend once again! 10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did) I've been CD shopping this weekend, so there are quite a few new songs on this week's list. 1. It's Not On - Justin Hayward 2. Paper Sun - Def Leppard 3. Big Guns - Skid Row 4. New Generation - The Scorpions 5. Oh Girl (I Wanna Be With You) - The Scorpions 6. See You At The Show - Nickelback 7. Action (Live 2005) - Def Leppard 8. When I'm Dead And Gone - Def Leppard 9. Destin - The Scorpions 10. Daddy's Girl - The Scorpions Songs 1 - 6 are Media Player's usual random fare. Songs 7 & 8 are the Target exclusive bonus tracks found on Def Leppard's new CD, Yeah! Songs 9 & 10 are the bonus tracks on the German releas of The Scorpions' Face The Heat, which arrived in the mail yesterday. It seems that bonus tracks are dominating my weekend! And now for the picture... The current incarnation of the barrel of flowers on my route. More fun than a barrel of flowers!? Perhaps... | Saturday, May 27, 2006

(Happy Birthday, Klaus!) This Thursday is a very special day for my sweet, lovely, Klaus Meine. It is birthday #58 for him! In honor of this occasion, my Thursday Thirteen for this week is... Thirteen things I'd like to do to help Klaus celebrate his birthday Prudes beware! This list is NOT G - rated! 1. Try on silly hats with him! 2. Tease him, please him, before he has to go. 3. Go on a hunt for our missing guitars. 4. Fly away with him. 5. Cover him with chocolate and lick it off! Mmmmm... German chocolate! 6. It just wouldn't be a birthday without the traditional spankings.... 7. Embarass him by showing this photo to everyone who is willing to look. 8. Take him to my favorite Aisian restaurant and afterwards have HIM for dessert. Who needs birthday cake anyway?! 9. Make him scream. Make him cry with all my heart and soul, 'cos I love him. 10. Kiss him, lick him, whatever it takes to get him to produce those incredible orgasmic sounds that he makes! 11. Take him to a good hair stylist so he won't feel the need to wear a hat all the time. 12. We've already done chocolate. Let's try whipped cream and cherries! 13. Hold him close when he is in the cold. Hold his hand if he is going to fall. Love him for what he is... Glücklicher Geburtstag, Klaus! | Wednesday, May 24, 2006
(Animé Style) I confess! I am a grown woman and I love animé! How could I not when it is full of characters who look like this? Treize Khushrenada from Gundam Wing Milliardo Peacecraft A.K.A Zechs Merquis, also from Gundam Wing Now if only I could find some REAL men who looked like this... | Hump Day Hunt It's time for the weekly photo meme from the folks at Foto Pherrets. Unseasonably cold and rainy weather leaves me longing for this week's word: Sunshine One of the rare times when the sun was shining over Pittsburgh, as seen from Phipp's Conservatory. | Tuesday, May 23, 2006
Take Me Back Tuesday A different twist on the meme this week... What has been the best year for you musically? (meaning..lots of great albums...concerts...etc) And tell us why it was. For me, 1980 was the best year, musically speaking. I saw my very first concert that year (Chicago) at the ripe old age of 18! But its being my best musical year had more to do with my own music than with concerts, albums, etc. I bought two gorgeous guitars that year, a handmade classical on my trip to Spain (40 American dollars, a steal, even back then.), and a Yamaha 12 string which was my graduation present to myself. You may recognise these as the two guitars I am constantly ranting about being missing. I was still writing lots of music back then and even performing at weddings and such. Life hadn't had the time to get in the way of my musical dreams, yet... What album evokes the most memories for you? My copy of Queen's The Game brings back lots of memories for me. Ah, a long ago college night spent with a man who called himself Kelly Randall... Are there any songs that make you think of something or someone? You don't live for 44 years and not have a gigantic collection of songs that remind you of people and things! These are but a few of mine... We Will Rock You by Queen reminds me of high school football games. Elton John's I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues makes me think of a certain ex boyfriend of mine who used to sing it to me. BLECH! Eye To Eye by The Scorpions never fails to make me think of my Uncle Ray. Silverbird by Mark Lindsay gives me visions of Yamaha motorcycles because Mark is a sell-out! Mickey by Toni Basil makes me think of a certain postal customer from a route that I used to deliver. His name was Mickey Fine! | Monday, May 22, 2006
Monday Madness How many simple things have you learned to appreciate more, for one reason or another? Please list them and feel free to elaborate on each. 1. Days that I am not scheduled to work - More than eight years of working six days a week has taught me to really appreciate this very simple thing. 2. My car - The time that it was out of commision for repairs taught me to appreciate this thing that I often take for granted. 3. My guitars - an appreciation brought on by the two that have gone missing. 4. Warm weather - One look at my weather pixie and you'll know why I appreciate this! 5. My kitties - So warm and cuddly and loving... 6. Michael - I greatly appreciate my very helpful son, even if he is a bit simple! (LOL) 7. Steaming hot coffee - unseasonably cold temperatures are once again responsible for my appreciation of this item! | Sunday, May 21, 2006
Random Ten It's time to recap my weekend once again! 10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did) It's been a rather uneventful weekend, so these are the random fare that Media Player had for me this morning... 1. I Wanna Hold Your Hand - The Beatles 2. Complicated - Bon Jovi 3. Who Says You Can't Go Home - Bon Jovi 4. Amanda - Boston 5. Life Goes On - Poison 6. Bringin' On The Heartbreak - Def Leppard 7. This Is Love - George Harrison 8. Get Out Of My Mind (Album Version) - Paul Revere & The Raiders 9. Wah-Wah - George Harrison 10. Are You Sitting Comfortably (Live Version) - The Moody Blues It doesn't get much more random than this! And now for the picture... Since Media player didn't seem to want me to listen to these guys, I'll look at them instead! | Saturday, May 20, 2006

Top Five On Friday We've got visuals this week, because the topic is... Top five album covers 1. Silverbird - Mark Lindsay My vinyl copy of this foil covered treasure is worn, torn, and covered with drool marks. No tiny internet photo can capture the beauty of this cover (Yeah, I'm talking about Mark "No Buttons" Lindsay). 2. X - Chicago Mmmmm... This album cover looks good enough to eat! 3. December - The Moody Blues Look, Justin! There is the whoosh of a star! 4. Blackout - The Scorpions 5. Acoustica - The Scorpions These last two covers offer proof of what a silly man Rudolf Schenker really is. That is him in both cover photos! Gotta love him. | Thursday, May 18, 2006
I'm going for a bit of work related fun this week. Thirteen things that I've learned while working for the post office 1. People who drink share their tales of woe with their bartenders. Teatotalers share them with the mail carrier. 2. Murphy's Law Of Parcels: The size of parcels to be delivered on any given day will be directly proportional to the amount of rain (or snow) that is falling! 3. The words "current resident" are the two most difficult words to understand in the English language. 4. Even the most intelligent people in the world will become morons when asked to fill out postal forms. 5. A time machine is necessary equipment for the delivery of mail! I can no longer count the number of times that I've received forwarding orders requesting that I begin forwarding mail days or even months before the order was filed. 6. Most people seem to think that the 39¢ that they pay to mail the average card or letter gives them full ownership of their mail carrier! 7. There is no magazine, newspaper, check, etc. that ALWAYS comes on a particular day of the month. 8. Mail carriers are expected to be able to give directions to anything within a 100 mile radius of their routes! 9. No matter how unusual the name, there will be two of the living in the same city. They will hate each other with a passion. Their friends will not know their address... 10. Mailboxes make great homes for critters such as wasps, spiders, birds, and even mice! 11. The way to a mail carrier's heart is through his or her stomach! 12. There is often a difference between a person's physical address and his mailing address. 13. If you need someone to blame for your mistakes, postal workers are an excellent choice! Now don't you all want to go out and get jobs with the U. S. P. S.? | Wednesday, May 17, 2006
I find that very difficult to believe of this week's hump day hunk, but his band did cover the song... (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Paul Revere & The Raiders Of course, if Mark really didn't get no satisfaction, I'd be more than happy to give him some... Somehow I think that Mr. Lindsay got plenty of satisfaction back in those Raiders days.... | Hump Day Hunt It's time for the weekly photo meme from the folks at Foto Pherrets Last Sunday was her day! Our word for ths week is: Mother Here we see a mother and father pronghorn deer with their family and a few friends. I wish that I could say that this picture was of live animals in their natural habitat (or even a zoo!) but alas, these beautiful creatures are part of a display in Cabela's. *shudders* | Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Take Me Back Tuesday This week is a choose your own adventure style meme. You know the format! My theme is: Color My World! Three songs. 1. Little Red Corvette - Prince 2. For You Blue - The Beatles 3. China White - The Scorpions Three artists. 1. The Moody Blues 2. The Black Crowes 3. Green Day Three albums. 1. Back In Black - AC DC 2. Yellow Submarine - The Beatles 3. Alias Pink Puzz - Paul Revere & The Raiders | Monday, May 15, 2006
Monday Madness Fill in the blanks... 1. If I could change ONE thing from this past weekend, it would be the amount of money that I put in the slot machines on Sunday. I should have quit playing when I had almost all of my money back! 2. One of my favoriet recipes includes cheese. Actually, most of my favorite recipes include cheese. I love cheese! 3. If things don't go as originally planned, I tend to scream. Don't knock it until you've tried it! 4. My daily routine is very boring. Too much of the same old same old... 5. The one television show I will probably miss, since the season is coming to an end, is Ghost Whisperer. I wanna know what happens with Andrea, NOW!!!! 6. I have a calendar hanging/sitting on my microwave. It's one of those plastic ones with a dial to set the date yourself. 7. I'm really lazy about changing the calendar when the day/month changes. That chore usually goes to Mike. I don't know what I'd do without him! | Sunday, May 14, 2006
Random Ten It's time to recap my weekend once again! 10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did) I celebrated Mothers Day by losing a bunch of money at the Wheeling Island Casino, so my playlist is rather interesting this week... 1. Living On A Prayer - Bon Jovi 2. Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi 3. Social Disease - Bon Jovi 4. We Will Rock You - Queen 5. Your Song - Elton John 6. Just You And Me (Simple And Free) - Chicago 7. Let's Impeach The President - Neil Young 8. Lookin' For A Leader - Neil Young 9. Let Me - Paul Revere & The Raiders 10. Stone In My Shoe - The Scorpions Songs 1 - 3 were travel music. "The estranged one" was driving, so we compromised by playng Bon Jovi on the stereo. It's a far cry better than country! Songs 4 - 6 are random songs that I heard in the casino. Songs 7 & 8 are from Neil Young's new CD which my sons gave me for Mothers Day. Song 9 makes the list because I love to play it to drive my son, Mike, crazy. Mark's random screams in the middle of the song make him go nuts! Song 10 makes the list because I've gotta have my Scorpions! And now for the picture... Neil Young, in honor of his new CD which is terrific! Classic political Neil, just the way that I like him. | Saturday, May 13, 2006
Every year since I began working for the post office, I have had the honor of working on the day of The National Association of Letter Carriers' food drive day. It is always on ths day before Mothers Day. This food drive irritates the hell out of me for several reasons. I have nothing against collecting food for the hungry, in fact, I am all for it, but something needs to be done about the way that this service project is handled! I am a rural carrier. As such, I am not a member of the union that sponsors this project. Rural carriers have their own union. Still, we participate in the drive in cooperation with the city carriers' union. Hell, rural carriers collect more food from their routes than the city carriers do. It only makes sense. Our routes are bigger. But when all is said and done we get no credit for our participation in this event. Postmasters and city carriers will get their pictures in the local newspapers with members of the food bank. Thanks and praise will be dished out to them. Rural carriers will not be recognised for their participation. We will not even get a thank-you! Collecting all of this food is no easy task. The flyers that are sent out to customers are designed with city carriers in mind. They say to place the food near your mailbox. This is fine for a carrier with a walking route, but for the rural carrier... Every time a cutomer puts a bag of food on the ground beside the mailbox, the carrier must park the vehicle to get out and collect it. This takes time, approximately one hour extra time, total, on the day of the food drive. City carriers are paid an hourly wage and are compensated for this extra time. Salaried rural carrirs are NOT! Once again we don't even get a thank-you! GRRR! Praise God! This was the last year that I shall have to do this miserable thanless task. By next year I will have a sub and my Saturdays off. My future sub can deal with this crap! I feel sorry for him (or her). | Friday, May 12, 2006
I learn so many interesting things about myself from the quizzes at Blogthings. For example, this...

Soon, but not soon enough, I shall actually be having weekends off. In celebration of this fact, this week's Thursday Thirteen is: Thirteen things that I plan to do on my weekends off 1. Drag my sorry butt into church on a regular basis. 2. Sleep until noon on Saturday! 3. Eating tour of Pittsburgh's south side. 4. Shopping spree at that guitar store on the South Side. 5. Rediscover Saturday morning cartoons. 6. Order some movies on pay-per-view. 7. Kennywood 8. Ildlewild 9. Put the finishing touches on Baby Blue Eyes. 10. Find those vinyl Raiders albums. 11. Go to Round Hill Park and photograph the farm animals. 12. Take some nice long walks. 13. Do laundry and hang it outside. | Replacing my vinyl collection of Raiders albums with CDs has become almost an obsession for me now. CD number two arrived in the mail today. WOOT! Alias Pink Puzz * Giggles at this title * I had forgotten how much I loved this album! One song in particular stands out from all of the rest in my mind. A musical celebration of Murphy's Law, Down In Amsterdam is one song that you've just got to hear. It will leave you giggling in delight! Of course, this song also reminded me of a certain friend of mine who lurks about this blog. I haven't heard from him in eons. Nary a comment nor email. If it weren't for the fact that I frequently see his IP address among my visitors, I would think that he had died! * ENORMOUS HINT * And just in case he is unsure that I am referring to him (It seems highly unlikely, but it IS possible. He's a man, after all, and we all know how daft they can be), I would just like to say this: Download the song, 13! And for crying out loud, let me know if you liked it. | Wednesday, May 10, 2006
Hump Day Hunk Celebration I cried tears of joy yesterday when I learned that an upcoming addition to my route in mid - June will allow me to have my much longed for day off every week. I am still in the mood to celebrate. What better way is there to celebrate than to enjoy the beauty of my favorite Hump Day Hunks?! Matthias Jabs Mark Lindsay George Harrison Neil Young Klaus Meine |
